I help people to bring out their best
Leading people for over 25 years has taught me a thing or two about helping people to be their best. This knowledge and approach is now used to help people take control, own and transform their lives
As a leader I had the mindset that my job was to motivate people to give their best in the jobs I was asking them to do. I realised through experience and maturity that I was merely feeding them for a day using the famous phrase, “ give a man a fish…
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime
Chinese Proverb
Leading and motivating people to give their best takes care of the immediate needs, the business stuff but this doesn’t do much to help people work out how they can motivate and lead themselves to be their best, teach them how to fish and they will eat forever!
If leadership is about getting people to give their best, professional coaching is all about helping people to be their best. A big difference between giving and being is the intent behind the service. As a coach I am in full service of my clients and therefore all my attention is focused on helping them to be their best. Leaders are in service of their outcomes and so their clients interests (people they lead) will never be their primary focus
